OWINY SIGOMA BAND (UK/KE)
Saturday 07.07.12 - 14:00 - Cosmopol
The traditional songs of Kenya are given a gleam of today’s London with Owiny Sigoma Band.
In 2009, a group of London-based lads (their resumé includes the art-funk band Elmore Judd and Gorillaz) went to Nairobi to jam with the local musicians, originating in the traditions of the Luo people. The result was so appealing and funky that the influential world music pusher, DJ and radio host Gilles Peterson signed the band.
The focal point of the music is a special Kenyan harp called the nyatiti. The English musicians spar attentively, humbly and instinctively with the Africans’ hypnotic music.

Band schedule is ready in May
Roskilde Festival releases the time schedule in May, if everything works out at least somewhat according to plan.
We don’t do it until then to make the best schedule possible for our audience. When we, for various reasons, are forced to make changes late in the process, we have a better chance at putting together a programme that considers both the spreading of genres, the performer's touring plans and safety at the festival.
